B-IT Foundation.
In the Fall of 2002, the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen
University, the University of Applied Sciences Bonn Rhein-Sieg,
and the Fraunhofer Institute Centre Birlinghoven Castle (IZB)
joined forces to establish the Bonn-Aachen International Center
for Information Technology (B-IT). Supported by the B-IT
Foundation and complementary state resources, B-IT offers highly
selective International Master Programmes in Applied IT as well as
summer/winter schools for qualified computer science
students. Most courses take place in the beautiful B-IT building
next to the former office of the German Chancellor on the banks of
the Rhine River in Bonn. Admission to the B-IT Master Programmes
is linked to, and conditional upon, placement in research lab
courses at the participating Fraunhofer institutes. Students in
good standing are offered financial support during these lab
courses.

Project management and Technology Transfer
The Fraunhofer Institute of Manufacturing and Automation
(Fraunhofer IPA) The main focus of the research and
development work carried out at the Fraunhofer Institute for
Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA is directed at
solving organizational and technological problems faced by
industrial companies active in the manufacturing field. However,
more and more often we are also dealing with task fields
associated with developments and changes taking place in the
service sector.
The Fraunhofer IPA aims to realize this
objective by developing, testing and implementing methods,
components and devices up to and including complete machines and
systems. Most of the work carried out is financed by industrial
companies. Parallel to this, projects are being worked on which
are sponsored as part of public research programs.
